West Village

Bobo Restaurant

I went to this restaurant on recommendation of a friend and did not regret going here at all! The name of this restaurant refers to “Bohemian” and “Bourgeoisie”. It is a super cosy restaurant in the West Village. You get an easy dinner in a warm atmosphere. There was a nice young crowd and I really liked the look of the place – a little hidden on the corner of 10th and 7th, brick walls and candlelight. 181 W 10th St, New York | +12124882626 | Underground: Christopher – Sheridan S | $$$ | Website

Buvette
Buvette Grove Street NYC West Village
Buvette is a small cosy French cafe in the West Village that serves French tapas style food all day. Our evening starts with a super cute menu (and waiter) and we decide to go for some of the tartines, shaved Brussels sprout salad and a little pot of Coq au Vin to share (other dishes on the menu are pissaladière, croque monsieur, housemade charcuterie, tarte tartin, so French!). Everything tastes really good and the vibe of the place is great. Buvette is also known for offering amazing brunches so keep in mind if you’re in the area. There is a tiny terrace in the back so you can sit outside if you’re lucky. No reservations unfortunately. 42 Grove Street | Subway: Christopher St – Sheridan Sq | Tel: +1 212-255-3590 | Website | $$

Employees Only

This is a super nice Cocktail Bar in the West Village. Good atmosphere. Small. Intimate. Bouncer at the door. Good cocktails. Not sure how crowded it gets in the weekend but during the week it was not too crazy. 510 Hudson St (between 10th St & Christopher St), New York | +1212 2423021 | Tube: Christopher Street | Website

The Fat Cat

If you want to do something different before you go out for dinner or just want to have some old fashioned fun, go to this place. They play live music in a very big open space with randomly placed pingpong tables, Pool tables, chessboard tables and shuffleboards. You order for example a beer and some pingpong balls and for $11 per hour (for a table) you can play as long as you like. Loved it big time! 75 Christopher St (7th Ave), New York | +12126756056 | Underground: Christopher – Sheridan S | $$ | Website

Blue Ribbon Downing Street BarBlue Ribbon Downing Street bar
Not much to say about this great little bar apart from the fact that I managed to go back here within the one week I was staying in NYC because it was so perfect…! Had a delicious bottle of wine… I can’t remember the name as I didn’t pick it and wasn’t being paying attention when I was asked if I agreed with the choice… whoopsie… However, the guy behind the bar was super friendly so will definitely let you try some of the wines and give you some good advice. Apparently they have 250 bottles to choose from! They are also said to have really good nibbles which I didn’t try.. Urghh, sorry…not much help here! Last but not least; the brothers who own this little wine bar (Bruce and Eric Bromberg) also own the restaurant Blue Ribbon Bakery Kitchen across the road which I didn’t try either BUT is apparently very good too.. So I invite our readers to go there, check and feedback to our blog! 34 Downing St, West Village, NY (between Bedford and Varick Sts) |+1212-691-0404 |Opening hours:Daily 6pm–2am | Underground; A, C, E, B, D, F to W 4th St; 1 to Houston St | $$$ | Website | Map

Fedora – NYC
Fedora NYC
Love Fedora! It’s a speakeasy basement and totally cozy, hip and lovely inside. The service was amazing too. It’s quite small and gets really busy in the evenings, especially over the weekends so it might be hard to get a table, but they do accept reservations. It used to be a cocktail bar and omg, they are good! Two words: Song-Bird. We loved this one so much we decided to stick with it the rest of the night…. The food was really great too. We shared different plates and were impressed with the taste. Will definitely be back. 239 W. 4th St. (between 10th St & Charles St) | West Village | (646) 449-9336 | Website | $$$

The Lion

I tried to have dinner in this Bohemian chic place about a year ago and found them all slightly pretentious and left before I got my table. However, I was willing to give them a second chance because I liked to interior so much… Didn’t regret it at all. We had superb cocktails at the bar and afterwards a good dinner in a smart looking area. Some people may find the wine list still quite pretentious (you can order a bottle of wine for $9000,-) but I found the staff attending and nice and I had a delicious main; fresh ricotta ravioli with roasted pumkin! The Lion is the new restaurant from the former Waverly Inn chef John DeLucie. 62 West 9th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues | Tel: +12123538400 | Underground: Christopher St – Sheridan Sq‎ | $$$ | Website

The Spotted Pig – NYC
The Spotted Pig
Inspired by the English Gastro pub and looking actually quite a lot like an English pub you may wonder why I choose this place to have dinner in NYC.. Probably because I was with a group of 5, amongst which 3 VERY British guys and I thought they would appreciate this place… Well, they did…! I really liked this gastro pub; it’s super buzzing and cozy and they have a nice bar upstairs where you can wait for your table as they don’t take reservations. The whole place is covered in curiosities hanging on the walls (mainly all pigs…) and they created adjacent spaces which makes the restaurant less spacious but at the same time very cozy. I was told the Burger is amazing but didn’t have it as I already had a burger 4 hours earlier… Anyway, I choose to have mackerel as a starter and fish stew as main.. Both very good. 314 W 11th St  New York (on the corner of Greenwich St.| Underground; Christopher St – Sheridan Sq | +12126200393 | $$$ | Map | Website

Tortilla Flats

Tortilla Flats is my new favourite place in the world! It might have taken this prominent place because it offered Bingo, tequila Bingo I later found out. As a Bingo virgin I got totally carried away while the rest of the restaurant was hammering tequila shots. This place is seriously crazy. All you need is a big fat plate of nacho’s with beef chilli cheese, Margherita’s, Corona and lots of tequila. Perfect place to go with a group of friends. 767 Washington Street, between W 12th and Jane St | West Village | (212) 243-1053 | $ | Website
